As the name suggests, the AU Enigma hops is truly a puzzle of flavors. The taste of beers brewed with this variety have been described as having the unique characteristics of Pinot Gris, raspberries, redcurrant, rock melons, and light tropical fruit. Although it can be difficult to pin down exactly.
The Enigma hops variety has also been rightly called a “chameleon” because of how its complex flavors can blend and manifest through, especially if added late in the brewing process.
The Enigma also has notably high alpha levels.
Hop Products Australia (HPA) started the first generous crop of the Enigma in Tasmania in 2013. The variety is a descendant of the Swiss Tettnang hop. Its growth can be likened to the North American hop. The AU Enigma contains a range of flavors not found in its heritage.
